Great
Independents in Abingdon
Abingdon-on-Thames
is known as the home of the independent - we have more unique, individual,
quirky independent shops than many other market towns.
This
isn't a paid-for listings page, just our our pick of some of our
favourite shops in the town, which you should definitely try to
visit when you are visiting us (in alphabetical order):
Added
Ingredients - a wonderful deli just along the road from
us in Stert Street.
The
Broad Face - if we ran a pub, this is what we'd hope it
would be like. Fantastic beer and food down by the river.
Fabulous
Flowers - our
favourite flower shop, bar none. If we need to present visiting
authors with flowers, this is where we go.
The Finishing Touch - a fantastic and extremely classy shop with interior designer pieces, jewellery, home accessories and wonderful gifts. Their window displays are always something to behold!
The
Gift Centre - Run by passionate supporters of Abingdon, this
upmarket aladdin's cave in the Bury Street precinct has a wonderful mix of
jewellery, ornaments, artworks, the best place in Abingdon for greetings
cards (along with us of course) and a great shop for an special,
commemorative gifts. There is also a gallery upstairs with original
watercolours from local artists. A really lovely shop.
Masons
- people travel for miles to visit the three Masons stores in Abingdon
to get their knitting, sewing and craft supplies. There are two
shops in Bath Street, and one in Stert Street. It's one of the oldest
family-run businesses in Abingdon.
The
Nursery Shop - another of our Stert Street neighbours, a
beautiful place for decking out the nursery, and simply adorable
things for your little ones.
Scuffs
- amazing little children's shoe
shop on the market square.
Sweet
Chocolate - Retro sweet shop, selling traditional sweets in
jars as well as fabulous artisan chocolates (and everything in between).
Skinny Hippo (new!) - A new, exciting gift shop with unusual gifts, craft supplies, children's activities - and even stained glass window course! A real gem, and a welcome addition to the town's retail environment!
Throwing Buns (new!) - Named after Abingdon’s longstanding tradition of throwing buns from the magnificent County Hall, Phil & Kate have created a very special coffee shop to enjoy freshly ground coffee, loose teas, delicious lunches and mouth-watering handmade cakes...
